Traveller Series

The Traveller Series comprises a maximum of 15 races sailed at 5 different Traveller Events throughout Ireland. Each Traveller Event is sailed at a different club and is made up of a maximum of 3 races, sailed back to back, over one day. All three races will count in calculating the event result, i.e. no discard. One race must be sailed to constitute an event. The sailors enter and register on the day of the event, and the entry fee, which is collected by the host club, is £16/€16 for 2010. This is broken down as follows: £13/€13 to the host club, £3/€3 capitation fee to the Topper Class Association. The host club is responsible for payment to the association of both capitation fee and new membership fees (see below) collected on the day of the event. The Notice of Race is on the Topper website. The host club provides Sailing Instructions to the sailors (sample SI’s can be downloaded from the website). The host club organizes appropriate rescue cover.

All sailors MUST be members of the Class Association. The full annual membership fee is £16/€16. Alternatively, entrants may pay a One-Event fee of £6/€6. A list of paid-up members is available to the host club by contacting the membership secretary agchambers@btinternet.com.

Food

The host club endeavours to provide a snack (preferably hot) for each sailor after racing. Sailors are expected to provide their own lunches, suitably wrapped to enable on the water consumption if required. The Club, if possible, will provide a support boat or "Mother ship".

Fleets/Prizes

There are 2 Topper sail sizes, resulting in 2 fleets: the Full rig and the smaller ‘4.2’ rig.

Prizes should be awarded as follows:

Full Rig Fleet: Overall 1st to 3rd, and 1st lady prize (these are the main prizes and should be "better" than the age category prizes/certificates); Age-category prizes: 1st to 3rd, U12; 1st to 3rd, U14; and 1st to 3rd, U17years. If a sailor is awarded 1st, 2nd, or 3rd overall, he/she is excluded from winning an age-category prize. Age-category is calculated by the competitor’s age on 1st Jan 2009. The 2nd and 3rd age-category prizes in Traveller events may be certificates. No sailor to be awarded more than 1 prize, except that the 1st lady prize is exempt from this rule, and goes to the 1st lady regardless of whether or not she receives any other prize.

‘4.2’ Fleet: Overall 1st to 3rd prizes. These may be fun prizes.

Scoring/Results

The low point scoring system of Appendix A of the racing rules should be used. Please ensure that published results contain result codes where applicable (DNF, DNS, DSQ, OCS, Etc.).

The host club is responsible for producing results, and a copy of Final Results should be given to a committee member of the Topper Class association and e-mailed to the web master at murphyprj@yahoo.ie.
