International Topper Class Association Ireland

What is the Irish Topper Class Association?

The Irish Topper Class Association is run by enthusiastic parents, to promote the Topper Class in Ireland, both North and South.

The Topper has undergone a modernisation process over the last few years, making it a truely competitive dinghy, which the children love to sail. With the new centre main, it is rigged identical to the bigger laser dinghy. In addition and like the Laser, it now has 2 sizes of rig. The original 5.3 M sail + a smaller 4.2 M for the lighter sailor. There are children as young as 8 racing in our fleets.

Throughout the year, we promote a number of events that cater for all ability levels, from young sailors just starting out in one of the best sports in the world, to those with considerable race experience who aspire to race at international level.

The local scene consists of a Topper Traveller Championship, usually made up of 5 events at different clubs throughout the year, we also have several provincial championship events held throughout Ireland (usually Ulster Championship, Munster Championship, and Leinster Championship), and finally our Irish National Championships which usually attracts the cream of the GBR squad to do battle with!

2008 is an important year for the class with the World Championship coming to Fenit - Tralee Bay Sailing Club from the 19th -25th July.

Whatever level you sail, you are sure of a warm welcome to one of the most social of sports there are!
