The next training 17th & the 1st Traveller event 18th will be at Courtown this weekend. Training will be conducted on Saturdy at a cost of 20 Euro (£16) and free during the Traveller. Don't forget to bring your own lunches for on the water.

IRLTOPPER Jackets for the worlds - Graham Chambers will be e-mailing you all soon with prices for "Team Ireland Jackets" at the worlds. Traditionally there is a parade at the worlds opening cermony, and we want to look the part! It is hoped to have the jackets ready for distribution at the Larne Traveller on the 22nd June.

Topper Ulsters at Killyleagh Yacht Club.

For the 1st time in my memory, if not ever, 50 young sailors turned up for a provincial championship. Winds were rather strong which cancelled the sailing on Saturday. Sunday conditions were slightly better allowing the seasoned sailors to get 4 races in, while our new and younger members watched in RIBs! Congratularions to the winners. 1st = Philip Doran from Courtown, 2nd = Ryan Wilson from Carrickfergus, & 3rd = Rory Lynch from Blessington. 1st Lady = Jennifer Dolan from Blessionton. Ulster Provincial Championships

This weekend the 19th& 20th April at Killyleagh sailing club. There will be 6 races over the 2 days, possibly 3 or 4 on Saturday. Entry fee £30 or 40 Euro and registration on the Saturday morning from 0930 hours. Briefing 1045 Saturday sharp. Warning signal 1155 hours Saturday. Remember to bring a lunch to eat and drink on the water clearly marked with your name and sail number. Entry forms can be obtained by e-mailing Graham Chambers or Brian Wilson. The open Topper training at the weekend was a great success with over 30 kids taking to the water in what can be described as text book conditions. Many thanks to Julie & Graham Chambers and the team at Killyleagh Yacht Club for making it a total success. It was great to see so many new faces.

"Open Topper Training" The 1st Open training session of 2008 will take place over the weekend of the 12th & 13th April at Killyleagh Yacht Club. (1000 hours Saturday start) This training is open to all members of the Irish Topper Class Association. The cost will be £25 per sailor for the weekend. Those wishing to attend, please indicate their intention by e-mailing me with your names. bjwilson@talktalk.net It is very important we get our coaching & rescue ratios correct at this time of year. This will be a good warm up for the Ulsters at Killyleagh the following weekend. Craftinsure.ie - Craftinsure, who have insured sailing boats in the UK for years, have opened up an Irish branch, allowing insurance to be paid for in Euro! Visit www.craftinsure.ie They have kindly offered to make a donation of 3 euro to the association for each insurance policy taken out or renewed for each Topper in Euro. This is similar to the scheme they have offered to GBRTopper for many years. Their link can also be found in the "link" tab of our site. Further they have kindly offered to support ITCA IRL in a similar basis to UK support and will be assisting with sponsorship for this years Irish Nationals.

Championship Number Renewal - Please be aware that championship numbers will be required for all boats competing in the worlds in Ireland in 2008. Anyone who wishes to retain their 2007 number should contact Helen Evans before the end of January 2008. After that date she will allocate numbers when applications are received. Those requiring a new number, contact her with proof of membership of ITCA Ireland, and she will allocate one. Her e-mail address is topperworld@dsl.pipex.com Remember those who bought a new Topper in 2007 are entitled to free membership of the UK Topper association for 2008. Look in the back of your red document pack owners manual.

The worlds are coming to Ireland! - The Gul Topper World Championships 2008 will take place during the period Saturday 19th July 2008 to Friday 25th July 2008 and be hosted by The Tralee Bay Sailing Club (www.traleebaysailingclub.com) at Fenit which is located approximately 6 miles due west of Tralee, Co Kerry, Ireland. The Notice of Race and Entry Form will be published by the end of January 2008. There are 200+ boats expected so get your accommodation booked!The Banna beach Hotel & leisure complex is worth checking out.

2007 - WORLD TOPPER CHAMPIONSHIPS - MALCESINE

The six Irish sailors that took part at the World Topper Champions achieved excellent results. There were 173 sailors taking part and after the four qualifying races they were slipt in to two fleets 87 in the Gold Fleet and 86 in the Silver Fleet. A further six races were sailed, the weather throughout the championships was very changable and very challenging at times.

TOPPER SAILORS SUCCESSFUL AT GBR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Seventeen Topper sailors from various counties of Ireland competed at the GBR Topper National Championships held at East Lothian Yacht Club, North Berwick 4th August to 11th August 2007.

They were Philip Doran Courtown S.C. – Aoife Hurney Courtown S.C. – William O’Morchoe Courtown S.C. – Ian Byrne Courtown S.C. – Ruth Harrington Courtown S.C. - Robert Murray Lough Erne Y.C. – Matthew Kinkaid Carlingford Lough Y.C. – Kathryn Law Ballyholme Y.C. – Belinda Law Ballyholme Y.C. – Michael Molloy East Down Y.C. – Kathryn Molloy East Down Y.C. – Rory Lynch Blessington S.C. – Finn Lynch Blessington S.C. – Maria Dolan – Blessington S.C. – Jennifer Dolan Blessington S.C. – Mark Dolan Blessington S.C. – Colin O’Mahony Blessington S.C.

There was a total fleet of 289 sailors competing at the championships from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Over the six day of sailing they all qualified into differing fleets being Gold, Silver and Bronze, and over this period they were also met with varying weather conditions.

In the Gold Fleet Philip Doran Courtown S.C. achieved 9th place which was an outstanding result – Maria Dolan Blessington S.C. achieving 69th - Matthew Kinkaid Carlingford Lough Y.C. achieving 73rd . In the Silver Fleet excellent results were achieved by Robert Murray Lough Erne Y.C. achieved 6th place– Colin O’Mahony Blessington S.C. achieved 10th place. In the Bronze Fleet – Finn Lynch Blessington S.C. achieved 19th place and also won 1st U12 Trophy. All sailors competing put in excellent performances against strong opposition and the prevailing weather conditions, they all enjoyed the challenge and gained a great deal from the experience.
